Is the trail doable in late April if snow stays away?

We rode the trail between Deadwood and Custer the last week of May 2022. Previous to that week the high ground had enough snow to be a problem for biking. Biking in April on the Deadwood end at elevation is risky. If you go in April stay to the lower elevation and watch the weather and be prepared for temps in 30 - 50 degrees.
