Has anybody thru hiked the trail? Are there available areas to pitch a tent?

Pat from Spearfish on 9/25/2026 3:35:30 PM:
You are not permitted to camp on the trail or at the trail heads. But much of the trail is in the Black Hills National Park. You are permitted to camp in the park with a few exceptions. It would not be difficult to map out an itinerary with camping areas picked out. With water and facilities available and access to towns, camping is very possible
. The Black Hills also has the Centennial Trail which is more of a hiking trail that goes through some areas that are not open to bicycles.
